Our Living World – Compassion in Action
In this world right now there are unhappy people and especially children trying to survive in extreme poverty, dying of malnutrition and disease every few minutes. Some are sold into slavery, while others are in extreme terror, living in war-torn lands, trapped by their doctrines that must be arrogantly right, fighting for causes that could see them all die young. These people would happily live off our meager table scraps, happily use our old furniture, happily be grateful for our worn clothes, and happily sleep on the dry floor of our quiet garage.
These people and kids don’t focus on the latest technology or breakthroughs because that won’t protect them, the latest iPhone won’t keep them from going hungry, and a wireless laptop means nothing when you’re illiterate, badly fed, sick or dying. . We need to pull ourselves together…as we take our abundant existence for granted and worry about silly, silly things that aren’t life threatening at all.
At what stage of spiritual evolution are we going to use his greater consciousness to help humanity and make a difference in these realities? Just because things are the way they are doesn’t mean things are right, nor does it mean they should stay the same. We could all make it different if we wanted to!
As a global family united in our common humanity, we always make the same mistakes. We are always caught up in our own needs to be disturbed to help our neighbour. Where’s the honor in that? Am I the only one feeling and thinking like this? Where is the wisdom of the ages of mankind in our governments and laws? Where is it written that some will be rich and others will be poor? Obviously, when we hear of equality within humanity, it is only a spiritual ideal, when does it become a reality, rooted in daily life taking care of everyone’s well-being .
Imagine how easy it could be to change the status quo if only our world leaders were ready?
I care about our world and all who live in it, I care enough to speak my truth, which is why I am posting the written words that will hopefully pierce the hearts of mankind, enough to help heal his enormous wrongs. I spread the words of peace and love, the words of wisdom that the soul is greater than the intellect. That everyone has the right to live as they wish as long as it does not harm anyone. I believe that one day it will happen… that the world will become a better place for our children, our children, our children. This is how we can sort out the mess our ancestors made of things and move on from senseless wars and stop poverty, educate the illiterate and create new ideals and awareness that truly serve our global community and greater humanity.
Join my team as we heal the world with compassion; it takes an act of love and kindness at the same time! A practice that we could all adopt and add to our daily lives. What act of compassion have you done today? We want to know. If you have a small foundation or charity working for a better world, we want to know more. Contact S’Roya by email and share your story. How do you help make the world a better place for those less fortunate?
Siddhartha Foundation UK, real compassion in action
Recently, I met a very interesting lady by the name of Dechen Chodron, who told me about a foundation she and a few others had started to help poor, homeless children who got stranded in the Himalayas. Dechen told me how the Siddhartha Foundation UK was started in 2006 by a group of 5 friends who live in Somerset County, after being inspired by Lama Khenpo Chimed Rinpoche, a kind, wise and compassionate Buddhist teacher from Kathmandu in Nepal. . Khenpo, (as his friends and students call him) has brought peace and comfort to many people in the east and west through his Tibetan Buddhist teachings. At the same time, he raised awareness of the plight of thousands of children of Tibetan origin in Nepal, where extreme poverty prevents them from receiving any form of education in their own tradition.
Bringing hope to Himalayan and Tibetan children in Nepal
The administrators are: Michael and Lynne Orchard, Dechen Chodron and Adrian Beckingham, who are helped and supported by Rita Hraiz.
Between them, the founders have skills in charity management, business, education, social work, culture and the arts, media and finance.
“We all give of our time for free,” says Dechen, “as do all friends and supporters of the Foundation.” This keeps their overhead costs to a minimum, thereby maximizing the amount of the donation that goes directly to the welfare of children in Nepal.
We will provide refuge and shelter to some of the poorest children in the Himalayan region of Nepal.
We will provide education, health care, and emotional, physical and spiritual support to these children.
We will work to preserve the ancient wisdom of Tibet with a new generation of young people, displaced from their homeland.
We will strive to work with compassion, kindness, clarity and care at all times.
Nepal is one of the six poorest countries in the world with more than half the population surviving on less than $1 or 50 pence a day.
Life expectancy is 10 years less than in India and more than ten children die every hour from malnutrition and disease.
More than 85% of the population is illiterate.
Nepal is home to tens of thousands of refugees who have made the perilous escape from Tibet through the high Himalayan passes. Despite their extreme poverty, the Nepalese are renowned for their hospitality, generosity and warmth of spirit.
The Siddhartha School believes in love, care, health, education, the most precious gifts for a Himalayan child. With the help of a few generous benefactors, Khenpo purchased land near Kathmandu and began construction of a school that will eventually accommodate around 150 students. The school is run by its founder Lama Khenpo Rinpoche, who personally oversees all aspects of student welfare and school operations.
After seeing the first buildings open with an initial enrollment of 80 students, the decision was made to actively support the project, establishing the Siddhartha Foundation UK to work closely with our Nepalese partners Siddhartha Foundation Nepal, which is a fund for non-profit registered aid. the project on an ongoing basis.
The Dalai Lama of Tibet has personally endorsed Lama Khenpo’s work to help children in the Himalayas in this way….
Quote: “I truly appreciate the faith and dedication that Lama Khenpo has given in establishing this school where the dharma can flourish. I the Dalai Lama call on everyone to support this project with all possible efforts. I send my prayers for the fulfillment of all the noble wishes of Lama Khenpo” His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The Siddhartha Foundation School, located near Kathmandu, brings a beacon of hope and light to children who are lucky enough to secure a place. The students all come from disadvantaged backgrounds where health care and basic education are not accessible to them. Many students are orphans and for them the school provides a caring and nurturing safe environment. The school takes care of all the needs of the students, from food and clothing to the cost of medical care and the cost of their teaching materials. Students learn many things; daily classes consist mainly of English, Nepali and Tibetan languages, mathematics, meditation, philosophy, Tibetan art and culture, and physical education.
At the moment the Siddhartha school is for boys only, but soon (when funds allow) a school for girls will be built, as they believe in equal rights for both genders. The Siddhartha Foundation is actively seeking funds also for the construction of a clinic, an infirmary and a dispensary, which will be made available and benefit students and villagers. I encourage you all to discover the excellent work of this foundation and to support it in its mission by sponsoring a child or making a donation.
